Why is reading so important?

Dear reader,
I read since i know about reading. My father always encouraged me to read. Ever since i read books, it is my hobby. A door of joy and possibilities opened for me. Reading makes you an amazing person. Reading opens a window to other worlds. Imagination and creativity are both improved trough reading. Reading teaches you about different cultures and different ideas. When you read about different characters involved in different scenarios you become better at understanding people and situations. In this blog i want to explain what are the benefits of reading. By reading you do not only learn anything you want to, but also experience, imagine and it is entertaining. You can solve your own problems. There are hundreds of people and they have shared their experiences and life lessons in books that you can read in a few hours.
Reading connects us to each other.

Reading makes you smart
The best way to learn is to read. There are hundreds of books that will teach you anything you want to learn. With reading you can self-teach and self-discover. Just like any other muscle in the body, the brain requites exercise to keep it strong. and healthy, so that's why we have to read everg day. Everything you read fills your head with new information. The more knowledge you have, the better prepared you are to tackle any challenge you'll ever face. With endless amount of perspectives and lives we can read about, books can give us an opportunity to have experience that we have not had opportunity to have ourselves, and still allow us to learn the life skills.

Life is too short to keep repeating the mistakes that people already have made in the past, in order for you to reach the results that someone might already reached. If you read you have a more varied range of words to express how you feel and get your point across.

It gives you a higher level of vocabulary to use in everyday life. Reading will improve your focus and concentration. Reading a book takes long periods of focus and concentration, which in first hard to do. But over time reading will strengthen your attention span. Reading also reduces stress. A study has shown that reading slows down the heart rate and eases tension in the muscles. 

Reading improves your imagination
The world described in books as well as other peoples views and opinions, will help you understanding of what is possible. By reading a written description of an event or a place, your mind is responsible for creating that image in your head. If you watch television the image is placed in front of you. 

Self knowledge
You are, right now, the results of the words that you have heard or read and believed about yourself. What you become in the future will depend on the words you believe about yourself now. If you want to develop a good self image then reading is fundamental. If you read you can do your own research and thinking. Reading books has really changed my life.

One idea that can change your life

Hello dear reader,

Imagine yourself doing everything that you need to do without self -doubt and fear immediately. Think how your life would improve for the better. You would be in control of your own life. You would feel happier, healthier and more succesful. Do you ask yourself why it is so hard to take action? What is stopping you from taking action? Why don't you exercise when you know it is really good for you. Why are you eating all this unhealthy food, that you know is bad for you. Why is your thinking so negative all the time?Yet knowing so much about what we should or should not do, why is it so difficult to take action? Beacause our brain wants to protect us. We have to push ourself to do the things we must do that are good for us. I am really excited to write about this new 5 second Rule to help you change your life. This is the five seconds rule of Mel Robbins. Every time there is an great idea in your head, the moment you have an instinct to act on a goal you must psysically move within 5 seconds or your brain will stop you. 5-4-3-2-1-GO! 

Why does this Rule really work?
Robbins studies show that if you wait more than five seconds after that idea in your head, you probably never act on it. Why? Because your brains main job is to avoid trouble and risk, so in less than five seconds it will persuade you to not act upon your idea. Your brain starts asking different questions. What if i look like a fool? What if i can not do it?Most what we are doing is out of habit, research has shown that 40% of your day is spend in autopilot. These habits are most of the time, not serving us. Our brain wants to protect us, it want to keep us safe. Every time we do something  for the first time, our brain is keeping us from doing anything that feels scary, hard, or uncertain. In our comfortzone we are safe and staying this way is also easy. Second most of our decisions are taking out of  emotions and feelings.We will never feel like to taking action. This rule allows you to beat your brain in its own game. It is a crucial trick for outsmarting your brain. By counting 5-4-3-2-1-GO! you are distracting your brain from the idea's that will stop you to take action. The countdown pushes you out of your habitual thinking why should not take action. Pay attention to your ideas, stop thinking of why you should not do it and take action within five seconds.

Feeling in control of your life 
Mel Robbins describes in her book "The 5 seconds Rule": by taking actions that make you feel in control of your life, you will literally begin to change in every single way. As you use the Rule, you cultivate what researches call an '' internal locus of control'', which means that you believe you have control over your outcomes and future succes. Research shows us that those with an internal locus of control are happier, in better health, more likely to achieve at work, and have lower levels of anxiety and depression. And the more often you use the Rule, the easier it becomes to keep using it and keep feeling a sense of control over your life. So, every time you feel yourself shifting into autopilot, count 5-4-3-2-1 to bring awareness to your mind-and immediately act, shifting you into control, lowering your stress, and empowering you to keep making positive decisions.

How to write a valuable content 

Why did I choose to write about this topic. The reason is because i did know nothing about how to write a strong content. So, i thought its a good idea to do some research about it, not just to learn to write a strong content but also help you, the reader. I read a lot of good articles about it and listened to a lot of youtube video's. At the beginning of my reseach I asked myself how to write a strong content. I would like to answer this question in this blog post. 

Strong content
Do you remember that you read something and suddenly you were so motivated to take an
action that you could not stop yourself. Thats a high quality content. Writing a high quality content is important. Creating a strong content takes a lot of your time, but if you inspire your reader to have a different persective or take an action, it is worth it. What is the purpose Of your content? Of course to provide value to your reader. What effect does your writing have on people? What and how would you write if you knew you had an impact on the life of millions of people? Imagine for a moment that you write a content and people start thinking in a different way, or they take actions. Your reader will not only comment on your blog and follow you, but share your idea with friends and family. Imagine how you would think, feel and act if you have impact on the life of your readers. If by writing this blogpost i can help one person think or act differently, it is worth my time and I am satisfied. 

Why shoud you tell a story
Tell a story. Why we humans love stories?Because it is the most effective way to connect with
your reader. With your story you can also intertain your audience. By imagining things our brain does the same thing as doing that thing. Your experiencing it. Stories makes us feel things. It is also a way of learning. After telling a story to a friend you feel closer to that friend. Tell your story with a lot of details. For instance: after walking outside I felt the sun on my skin and.....Make your reader imagine, feel, experience the way you want them to. Who is your reader you want to connect to? 

Idea's for your content
If you have a conversation with your reader it may be an interesting topic to write about. If your reader has a certain question you can write a content to answer the question. If you are reading a great book ask yourself can it also benefit others. If you have an idea in your head don't just think about it, but put it on paper. Be curious about others and ask questions. After all you 're writing to your readers. Turn the music on.

More tips 
Write longer content. It is  a myth that writing short articles is better. A study about average shares by content lengths shows the longer your content the more the article was shared. Entertain your reader while writing. Give your reader a call to action. Write searchable titles. Be creative and take enough time to think, write and read your content. After writing your content go for a walk. You will be surprised that you think and write better.Use images because people are visual.Be real be yourself while writing.Let someone read your content and ask feedback. 

Read great blog posts for inspiration. Ask yourself questions: what is about this content that makes it so special. What techiques  does the blogger use? I read a few blog articles of Steve Pavlina and could not stop reading. I think a strong content must inspire your reader to take an action or at least to share your idea with others.

How to be happy in life? 

What is happiness to you? What's the difference between a happy life and a meaningful life?What is healthy happiness? Is being all the time happy healthy for you? Which actions can you take to live a happier life? I was really interested in the science of happiness and studied happiness i love to share it with you. 

Why is happiness healthy for you
We all want to be happy. Science shows that happines not only feels great but also predicts better physical health and even a higher paycheck. But why is happiness good for you. Happiness prodects your heart. In 2005, a paper found that happiness predicts lower heart rate and blood pressure. Happiness strengthnes your immune system. Research is now finding a link between happiness and stronger immune system. Happy people are helathier. Happiness combats stress. Happiness lengthens our lives. Studies have shown that happier people live 7-10 years longer. There are more reasons to be happy.

Definition happiness
Most of us probably don't believe we need a definition for happiness--we know it when we feel it, it is a range of positive emotions, including joy, pride, contentment and gratitude. Psychology researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky describes happiness as "the experience of joy, contentment, or positive well-being, combined with a sense that one's life is good, meaningful, and worthwhile''. 

Scientific differences between a happy life and a meaningful one
Roy Baumeister, a Francis Eppes Professor of Psychology at Florida State University describes the differences between a happy and a meaningful live based on a paper he published in the Journal of Positive Psychology. 
  • Happy people satisfy their wants and needs, but that seems largely irrelevant to a meaningful life. Therefore, health, wealth, and ease in life were all related to happiness, but not meaning.
  • Happiness involves being focused on the present, whereas meaningfulness involves thinking more about the past, pressent and future - and the relationship between them. Happiness was seen fleeting, while meaningfullness seemed to last longer. 
  • Meaningfulness is derived from giving to other people;happiness comes from what they give to you. Although social connections were linked to both happiness and meaning, happiness was connected more to benefits one receives from social relationships especially friendships, while meaningfulness was related to what one gives to the other for instance, taking care of children. 
  • Meaningful lives involve stress and challenges. Higher level of worry, stress were linked to higher meaningfulness but lower to happiness.
  • Self-expression is important to meaning but not happiness. Doing things to express oneself and caring about personal and cultural identity were linked to a meaningful life but not a happy one. 
Baumeister encouraes more people to seek meaningful pursuit in life whether or not so makes them feel happy. He recognizes that the two are closely tied. Having a meaningful life contributes to being happy and being happy may also contribute to finding life more meaningful. His advice is work toward long-term goals; do things that society holds in high regard for achievement or moral reasons. Look beyond yourself to find the purpose in what you are doing. Chances are that you will also find pleasure and happiness along the way. 

How to attain a healthy dose of happiness
First, it is important to experience happiness in the right amount. Too little hapiness is just as problematic as too much. Second, happiness has a time and a place, and one must be mindful about the situation in which one experiences happiness. Third, it is important to have a emotional balance. You can not experience happiness at the cost or expense of negatieve emotions, such as sadness, or anger or guilt. These all part of a complex recipe of emotional health and help us attain a more grounded perspective. Finally, it is important to pursue and experience happiness for the right reasons. Research suggests that people who strive to feel happy all the time may suffer of disappointment. We should build acceptance of our current emotional state, whatever it may be. True happiness, it seems, comes from kindness toward others-and towards yourself. Being more socially adept is tied to happiness (Jill Suttie,Psy.D.).

Which actions can you take to be happy
Do things that you genuinely love to do. I love writing and reading and it makes me happy. Go for a walk with a friend. See the beauty in little things. Listen to your favourite music. Exercise, work on yourself and improve everyday. Set goals and challenge yourself. You can not change the circumstances but you can change the way you see things in life.This way of pursuining happiness means proactively putting yourself in contexts that trigger positive emotions.

How to make a difference in other people's life

I have always asked myself the following question: What is true succes in life? After reading a lot of books on self improvement, i know that succes means living a meaningful life. Sharing your gifts with the world and giving without expecting something in return. What are your gifts? What do you love to do everyday all day long while not becoming bored? What gives you joy and meaning in life?

Add value
If we want people to respect us, then we must add value to their lives. There are many ways we can add value. Create something someone can use. Inspire someone to take action. Lend a helping hand. Show someone how to do something or give them your full attention. There are more ways to add value to other people's live. Find your own way. What is your gift. What is your contribution? No matter how you contribute, it's important to add value in an authentic way without a motive. If you add value to other people's live, you feel an amount of joy and happinnes. Other people will also respect you more. You will find true meaning in life. 

A joy shared is a joy doubled. Thomas Jefferson once said "a candle loses nothing when it lights another candle". Many people don't think that way. They believe that sharing means losing. I don't think that is true. If you have an idea, share it; you can always come up with another one. If you have money, give some of it away; you can always make more. You get from life what you expect. You can hoard what little you have and receive no more. Or you can give what you have, and you will be rewarded with abudance. Your attitude makes the difference. If you help others you help yourself. What are your talents and gifts? Do you share it with other people. Develop a attitude of kindness toward everyone. I am convinced that when people's motives are pure and they genuinely desire to add value to others, they cannot help others without receiving some benefit. (John C. Maxwell) The return may be immediate, or it may take a long time, but it will occur. Invest in others, and like a boomerang, it will come back to you, sometimes in a most unexpected way.

How one new habit can change your health, happinness and relationships


Habits are the small decisions you make and actions you perform everyday. Your habbits account for about 40 percent of your behaviours on everyday. How happy or unhappy you are is a result of your habits. The little small daily things we do that day in day out, week in week out and then month in month out, go into making the person we are-how we think, feel and act. In other words, we and our lives are the sum and result of our habits. 

It takes 21 days to form a new habit. (Maxwell Maltz). It takes more than two months before a new behavior becomes automatic-66 days exactly. It is hard to break old habits and new habits are hard to form. That's because the behavioral patterns we repeat most often are literally etched into our neutral pathways. The good news is that, through repitition , it is possible to form and maintain new habits.

Why is it so difficult to change habits?
In his book the power of habit Charles Dugigg describes that we can't erase/delete old patters.
That is the reason why it is so easy for us to fall back in our old ways. It is something we are familiar and comfortable with. It is possible to replace a bad habit with a good habit. 

Why are habits important?
Habits help us manage our minds. Habits also save us brain power or free up our brains to do creative thinking. 

How habits are formed?

Imagine for a moment that you have a habit that you really want to change. Let's say every time you have a lunch break at work you go outside to buy an energy drink and something to eat. Everyday you get there exactly at lunchtime. Because of this habit you could gain for instance exactly eight pounds. This was my habit at work. And what would  it take to change my habit i had to learn how habits work. According to Charles Duhigg, who wrote a book about habits, every habit functions the same way. At first there is a cue a trigger that starts the behaviour. Studies tell us that a cue can be a location, time,place, emotion or patters of behavior that triggers a certain routine.To figure out the cue. I spend a few days to know exactly when i had a cue. It was exactly at twelve o'clock during the lunch time.The next part of the habit is the routine, the behaviour. For me it was easy. Every day at twelve o'clock i went outside to buy something to eat and  an energy drink. I would eat it while talking to my colleague. The last part of the habit is the reward. The reward is the most important part of the habit. Because that is why habits exist. To change my habit i went outside but stopped buying an energy drink. I just bought something to eat. The next time i bought nothing. I had brought bread ant water to drink
 and i just went outside to have my lunch and to walk for a couple of minutes. I was testing different ways to know what reward i was actually craving. And what i had figured out was that it had nothing to do with the energy drink and food but  a lot to do with socializing and being with other people. What i now do on lunchtime is, i go to a friend and ask if we can walk outside while having our lunch. I don't buy my lunch every day, but i prepare it at home. I have lost all the extra weight. What habit do you want to change. Studies have shown if you can diagnose your habits you can change them in whatever way you want. 

My keystone habit
After having my child i was overweight. I had gained a lot of extra weight during my pregnancy. I really wanted to lose the extra weight. The first thing i did was searching on youtube how to lose weight as soon as possible. I read and listened a lot about losing weight. Following some advices i started with my excersise routine. I did 7 minute cardio every morning. When i workout, i wanted to eat better. I started to eat healthy food. I also slept better. I was more productive when i was awake. In other words, fitness is the keystone habit the puts the rest of life in place. When i workout, the other things naturally fall into place by creating just one new habit. What is your keystone habit? What is that one habit that could change your life?
